Saviour in the form of pastry

Should I feel silly that I just drove for an hour on a dirt road, destroying the rental car,  just to get my hands on a damn good cinnamon bun?

No, I should not, because not only was that cinnamon bun, with its  doughy layers, sugared walnuts and crumble mix topping, the most glorious thing to ever grace my tongue, but another $40 was spent in that bakery and it brought us back from the brink of starvation (an exaggeration but we were really hungry).

Polebridge mercantile is well known by the people of Glacier National Park and taxi drivers in nearby Missoula, the lonely planet guide does it no justice by describing the cakes as 'known to pump a good couple of hours into tired hiking legs'. They seriously under sold this quaint little bakery/General store, which sits in the middle of nowhere. The woman who served us remarked that infact the strangest thing wasn't their location, but that people find them and they are always busy.

After dropping off the hire car , we were making our way to the bus station for an 11 hour journey of  broken sleep, when we walked straight past a pitch of food trailers ! Luck comes in many forms people and this was so much better than the 5 cent coin I had just picked off the pavement (dont get me wrong that'll go to good use).

'Tia's hot tamales' serve hand crafted delicious goodies using organic meats and locally sourced ingredients. We both had the Posole, which is a light but heated, Mexican pork and green chilli stew, the spiciness was softened by chunks of ripe avocado and a homemade corn tortilla worked perfectly to wipe the remnants of the meaty sauce from our bowls. Not satisfied with just one dinner we moved onto the next trailer 'Bao chow', serving hot steamed buns, we opted for the beautifully slow cooked char siu BBQ pork and the vegetable packed, vegan coconut curry, both were light as air and seasoned to perfection.

Well that's filled us up nicely ready for the looong bus journey to Seattle. Sneaky huckleberry bear claw pastries for dessert as we while away the hours, with our uno card game championship. Probably will be sleepy/ sleepless in Seattle.
